MCA 1 plate taken in NZ ;)

This morning, I read with amusement this news item from Malaysia:

Melaka RTD to collect RM1.5m for ‘MCA’ licence plates

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 – The tender results for car licence plates bearing registration numbers from MCA 1 to MCA 9999 will be put up for public viewing at the Melaka Road Transport Department (RTD) starting tomorrow.

The Transport Ministry in a statement today, said the results would also be made available at the department’s website at www.jpj.gov.my.

A total of 965 tender applications for the MCA car licence plates were received between November 24 and December 15.

MCA 1 received the highest bid price of RM300,100, followed by MCA 2 at RM101,000 and MCA 8 at RM88,168,” the statement said.

The registration numbers for MCA 888 received the highest number of bids as 15 tender applications were received at RM15,400 each.

The price tendered for MCA 1 was also the highest so far, surpassing the previous high of RM242,000 tendered for TAY 1 and RM200,900 for TAN 1.

Through the tender bidding process and booking for the MCA number plates, the RTD is expected to collect RM1.5 million as revenue, the statement said.

Just for fun, I went to our personalised plate site where you can book your plate on line, immediately; provided the combination was not taken by someone else.

When I type in MCA1 in the search box, I was surprise that the plate was TAKEN!

But you can have the other combination on the right, for instance; MCA1 with l on each side.

Who would want the MCA1 plate in New Zealand?

Relatives of Chua Soi Lek? Hee hee...

But hang on, in NZ there are MCA Software, MCA NZ Limited of acturial services and the Ministry of Consumer Affair.

However, these MCA plates are still available:

You can even have them in different styles and colour! Eat your heart out Malaysians!

Interest to know how much those plates cost in New Zealand? Here are the price list:

That is NZ$839.00 for the plain Jane, standard look one.

Goodness, I got mine in 1989 for $320.00! At that time, only one type was available.

As a matter of fact, I just ordered two new one to replace my slightly worn one for my new Lancer.

Total cost, courier to my door, NZ$30.00! Unlike in Malaysia, where any tom dick and harry can make the plates; thereby control are none existence; only ONE remake company control the remaking of your plates in NZ and after receiving the remake, you have to return your old one.

Coming back to what that "sucker" going to pay for MCA2, what else can you call a person who is going to pay RM 101,000 (NZ$43,115.64) for that plate??

But then there in lie the difference between the power that be of the two countries, go figure!

You can kiss your RM......

Ha ha ha ha ha.....
